Sri Guru Samartha Sangeetha Vidyalaya ® was founded by Vidwan Amrutesh Kulkarni in 2002 with a cardinal purpose to make music more practicable for enthusiasts; he started tabla classes at his residence in Thyagaraj  Nagar, Bangalore.

Tabla, Harmonium and Hindustani Vocal classes are offered by the school. Tabla classes are conducted by Vidwan Amrutesh Kulkarni, harmonium and vocal classes are handled by Smt Uma Kulkarni. Both believe music is beyond socio-economic and physical differences. Free education is offered to students from poor background.

The vidyalaya has over 120 students all over Bangalore. Thayagaraj Nagar being the center, classes are conducted in Rajajinagar, Jayanagar, BTM Layout and Nandini layout.

The students of vidyalaya can take up various music examinations conducted by universities. Akhil Bharat Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Miraj and Karnataka State Secondary Education Board for music are the two institutions prominently taken up by students.

The vidyalaya is associated with many music institutions and artists in Bangalore and other places, various platforms of competitions and concerts are provided for students to perform.

Every year the vidyalaya recognizes artists and felicitates them for their achievements and valuable contribution towards making Indian Classical music popular. Various cultural programs are organized, all the students of the vidyalaya gets an opportunity to perform in this event.
